Dr. Sharry Shakory

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGIST IN SUPERVISED PRACTICE

You’re ready for something to change. I'm here to be your ally to make it happen.

I am a Psychologist in Supervised Practice registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in Clinical and School Psychology. My primary area of practice is child and adolescent assessment and treatment.

Compassionate and down-to-earth

I feel honoured when children, adolescents, and their families invite me to join them on their journey. I bring my genuine self into the room and always strive to maintain a therapeutic space that is safe, accepting, and values diversity and individuality. I work from a strengths-based lens and my style is compassionate, direct, and collaborative.

Unlocking potential

Everyone is doing the best that they can within their current circumstances and skill set.  With the right support and tools, every person can flourish and reach their full potential. I am here to support and facilitate the journey to overcoming challenges, recognizing strengths, and unlocking potential. My therapeutic approach is integrative, flexible, and evidence-based. I draw from my extensive training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and tailor my approach to the unique needs and goals of the individuals I work with. I also have specialized training in the implementation of Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT) which I acquired during my clinical training at the Tourette Syndrome Neurodevelopmental Clinic located at Toronto Western Hospital.

Fostering understanding

I provide comprehensive psychological assessment services for children and adolescents. Through these assessments, I aim to assist those who I work with to find answers to their questions about learning, developmental, and socioemotional challenges. In doing so, individual strengths and areas of need are identified and used to make tailored recommendations. Additionally, I understand that parenting has its unique challenges and provide consultation services for parents, equipping them with insights and tools to address specific queries and challenges that they are facing and are seeking support with.

My background

I received my PhD in School and Clinical Child Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. My research has focused on understanding reading development and profiles of struggling readers among children learning a second language with a focus on the French immersion context. My clinical training has involved working with the full spectrum of mental health and neurodevelopmental presentations across various school, hospital, and community settings.

In addition to my private work, I am a Psychologist in Supervised Practice at Kinark Child and Family Services, a community-based mental health agency.
