Dr. Kathleen Wilson

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST IN SUPERVISED PRACTICE

It’ll be hard work, and you can do it… and I can help.

I am a Psychologist in Supervised Practice registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. My practice includes assessment and treatment for adolescents and adults.

Genuine and collaborative

Whether I am working with an 8 or 28 year old, it is important for me to form a genuine therapeutic relationship with all of my clients from the outset of treatment. With an authentic alliance at the foundation of our relationship, I hope to create a safe and non-judgemental space where you can discuss whatever is on your mind. Our relationship is not meant to be one-sided—I will always strive to work collaboratively with you. I will listen without making assumptions and will respect your unique experiences and goals.

Curious and continuously learning

Becoming a Psychologist is part of a life-long journey dedicated to learning about myself, my blind spots, and how I can best support others. I greatly appreciate learning about the world and humanity, including its flaws, through the stories and experiences shared by my clients. I value working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, and I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive services.

Evidence-based and flexible

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults facing various stressors and challenges, including learning difficulties, anxiety, depression, emotion regulation challenges, obsessions and compulsions, anger, disruptive behaviours, and trauma. I have been trained in several therapeutic modalities including cognitive behaviour therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy. In working with you, with your unique set of strengths and needs, I will tailor my approach to meet you where you are while working towards the goals that are most important to you.

My academic journey

I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Windsor. My research focused on how to best measure coercive and controlling violence in intimate partner relationships, with the hope that better assessment might lead to earlier identification and support for survivors.

Throughout my clinical training, I have worked with individuals in various settings, including hospitals, private clinics, university clinics, and a shelter for families experiencing housing insecurity. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

In addition to my current private work, I am a Psychologist at a youth detention facility where my main roles are to provide treatment for youth with complex mental health needs and consult with staff on how to best support them.
