Dr. Christina Amico

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGIST IN SUPERVISED PRACTICE

Come as you are, we will figure the rest out together.

I am a Psychologist in Supervised Practice registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in Clinical and School Psychology. My primary area of practice is child and adolescent assessment and treatment

Real conversations. Real Connection.

Meaningful work begins with genuine connection. I show up as my whole self, with humour and candour…and invite you to do the same. My approach is warm, curious, and nonjudgmental. I believe that healing happens through connection, and that laughter and play open doors that words can’t!

My goal is simple: to create a space where children and teens feel understood, supported, and free to be themselves. I strive to understand the unique lens through which each person experiences the world and to build a space that feels safe, supportive, and human. Together, we’ll explore what matters most to you and work side by side toward your goals.

Assessments that actually make sense.

Assessments shouldn’t feel like a mystery. If I am assessing your child (or yourself), my goal is to help you make sense of the results in a way that’s practical and empowering - not just a stack of scores, but a story that helps you understand learning, development, and strengths. I aim to provide clear, realistic recommendations that lead to meaningful next steps at home, at school, and in daily life.

Flexible, focused, and a little (okay, a lot) of fun

I’ve had the privilege of working with kids and teens facing all kinds of challenges - anxiety, mood struggles, trauma, big emotions, and everything in between. I also have a passion for supporting youth with developmental differences, like Autism, and helping them and their families navigate a world often designed for people who think and learn differently.

My approach isn’t one-size-fits-all. I draw from a mix of evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I always tailor what we do to fit you. Some days that means structure and goal-setting; other days it means getting creative, laughing through the tough stuff, or slowing down to make sense of things together.

My story so far…

I completed my graduate training in School and Applied Child Psychology at Western University. My research focused on mindfulness-based practices that support co-regulation - the idea that kids learn to manage big feelings best when the adults around them can stay calm, present, and connected.

I’ve had the opportunity to work in schools, community clinics, private practices, and youth justice settings. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the resilience and potential of every young person. Before becoming a psychologist, I was an Ontario Certified Teacher specializing in Primary/Junior education. I've seen just how much children can grow when they feel encouraged and believe in their own abilities.
